Netflix’s hit series Never Have I Ever has returned for a third season with a new heartthrob in town. The series' latest season introduces Anirudh Pisharody as Des, a new love interest for Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan). This new season of the show continues to follow the high-flying student as she navigates new romances and friendships while juggling the ups and downs of high school and family life.
Never Have I Ever showcases some of the creator Mindy Kaling’s own experiences as a teenager. In an interview with NPR, Kaling expressed her initial hesitation about reliving her teenage years.
There is already a love triangle between Devi, Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet) and her academic rival Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison) who fans think might be based on Kaling’s real life best friend, but the introduction of Des in season three comes naturally. Considering where the show ended in the previous season with Devi, fans might be surprised to hear she might be moving on from Paxton.
Despite not being well known to some, Anirudh Pisharody is not entirely new to the industry. Here are some things you should know about him.
Anirudh Pisharody has been acting professionally since 2017. He was born in India, but was raised in Austin, Texas. Sometime after college, he packed up his things and moved to Los Angeles. Anirudh graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in public health.
Furthermore, he worked as a healthcare finance professional in Washington, D.C. before becoming an actor. His parents weren't exactly thrilled about the idea of him pursuing an acting career, but they didn't stop him. He told Brown Girl Magazine “They took it well. My mom even said she saw it coming.”
Prior to his role in Never Have I Ever season 3, the 28-year-old actor notably starred as Ravi Panikkar in the FOX series 9-1-1. He’s also guest-starred in episodes of Big Sky, The Goldbergs, Last Man Standing and popular daytime soap The Bold and The Beautiful. Additionally, Pisharody has appeared in several movies including Cerebrum, and Rogue Warfare: Death of a Nation.
Anirudh Pisharody is currently married to film director Jill V. Dae. Anirudh shared in a 2021 Valentine's Day post on Instagram that they met in a grocery store parking lot, calling her “the smartest, bravest, most giving, and kind-hearted person that I have had the pleasure of knowing.”
He also thanked her for contributing to his career, in the post he also wrote “you’ve been there for me through thick and thin, and if it wasn’t for you I would never have tapped into my artistry.” The couple got engaged in July 2019, and tied the knot shortly thereafter.
The couple has their own production company together called Black Velvet Films, where Dae serves as CEO and Pisharody serves as COO. In an interview with PEOPLE, Pisharody shared that the company grew from the couple just trying to "stay busy" as they kicked off their film careers. "When you're just starting out and acting and directing, producing, you're not given any opportunity. You just have to go out and do it for yourself," he said. "So it really stemmed from just making content for yourself and making the vision that you have for a project really come alive because the phone just wasn't ringing, so to speak."
Their catalog includes the movie Cerebrum which also stars Pisharody.
The actor earns his fortune from a variety of areas, including acting, modeling, advertisements, business, and others. He has an estimated net worth somewhere around $1 million to $2 million according to popularnetworth. Pisharody is still fairly new to the industry so his net worth is expected to increase over the next few years given his growing popularity.
Anirudh prefers to stay busy with hobbies outside of work, when he is working the actor likes to watch anime, his favorite being Demon Slayer. Pisharody is always anticipating the newest releases of Makoto Shinkai. Otherwise, when he's not on a set he likes to indulge in video games including Battlefield.
In the future, the actor hopes to play a South Asian hero in a Marvel movie "beating up bad guys." Pisharody would also like to direct and produce a documentary about Indian soldiers during World War II, a relatively unexplored topic in the media.
It's unclear if Anirudh Pisharody will return as Des for the final season of Never Have I Ever. The actor is currently filming a movie called Unit 234 which also features The Hunger Games actress Isabelle Fuhrman and Jack Huston (House of Gucci), otherwise he’s featured in a short form production called Prints, which is currently in post-production.
