Contestants who participated in a reality show based on Squid Game are contemplating suing Netflix, alleging inhumane treatment during filming.
According to reports, the participants were subjected to freezing temperatures and stood for hours at Cardington TV Studios in Bedford. Additionally, two contestants were expelled from the show before filming started for breaking rules by engaging in sexual activity in the hotel where they were staying.
Netflix has been shooting a reality adaptation of the deadly fictional competition, with participants competing for a record-breaking cash prize of £3.7million.
Amid plummeting temperatures at the UK studios, some disgruntled players are considering legal action against Netflix, expressing discontent with filming in such harsh cold conditions.
One contestant voiced their distress, stating, “We were tortured for eight hours. We were just fodder. You wouldn’t treat animals like that. I know the show was supposed to be tough but it felt inhumane.”
Another contestant claimed that people were succumbing to the cold weather, likening the conditions to a warzone.
Furthermore, it was reported that two players were dismissed from the show before filming even began due to their breach of rules by engaging in sexual activity at the Tower Hotel in London, where contestants stayed before the commencement of filming in Bedford.
Allegedly, strict regulations were in place for the participants before filming commenced, which included refraining from interacting with other players and abstaining from smoking and drinking alcohol during their stay at the hotel.
Reports emerged that contestants were seen screaming for medical assistance and being stretchered off due to the freezing conditions during filming.
In response to these claims, Netflix and the show’s producers stated that while it was indeed cold on set, any allegations of serious injury are untrue, emphasizing their commitment to the health and safety of their cast and crew.
A contestant revealed, “Even if hypothermia kicked in then people were willing to stay for as long as possible because a lot of money was on the line.”
They also described the distressing scenes on set, with people being carried out by medics and others struggling to move due to the extreme cold.
