Perla Nieto Obituary Fort Wayne: In loving memory of ‘kind’ mom killed in stabbing at the Waynedale Kroger; Jermard Lewis arrest & charges.
On Friday night, December 8, family members, friends and community members gathered to remember and honor Perla Nieto.
A suspect connected to the Waynedale Kroger stabbing that killed a worker on Thursday morning has been taken into custody by Fort Wayne police.
Perla Nieto, 59, died, and the Allen County Coroner declared her death to be a homicide on Friday. According to a media announcement from the coroner, an autopsy revealed that she died from stab wounds to the head.
Jermard J. Lewis, 30, has been charged with murder in the preliminary stages by Fort Wayne Police. Following an investigation by Fort Wayne Homicide Detectives, Lewis was taken into custody four hours after the crime scene.
At the moment, Lewis is being detained at the Allen County Jail. His first court appearance is set on Friday morning at 9 a.m.
Although the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Public Information Sergeant, Officer Jeremy Webb, stated that “maybe some words were exchanged” during an initial meeting at the businesses, the police did not believe Lewis knew the victim.
Just after 11 a.m., police, firefighters, Allen County Sheriff’s officers, and a TRAA ambulance arrived to the grocery store on Bluffton Road, sparking the start of the inquiry.
